Closing The Gap: Understanding Your Service (Wo)man by Yvonne Jones @yvijones

Having covered why I felt the need to write this book, I’d now like to explain the choice of this book’s title Closing The Gap: Understanding Your Service(wo)man. Substituting “Service(wo)man” with the word “Soldier” would have been more catchy. However, I want this book to appeal and apply to all families and friends of our service(wo)men of every single branch within our military. Many believe that the term “Soldier” is a general term used for anyone wearing the uniform. This definition might hold true with its looser usage within the civilian world, but is considered inaccurate in the military.

There are individual designations of each branch of service. Here is a quick overview:

The politically correct term for a cross-branch collective or generic reference to the members of any given branch is “Serviceperson” or “Serviceman,” hence, the title. Therefore, whether your “Service(wo)man” is in the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, or Coast Guard, this book will apply to you!
